Woolrich: Still Ignoring Animal Cruelty
The last big outdoor brand to sell fur from raccoon dogs and other species – Will Woolrich’s Arctic Parkas soon be without animal fur?
Woolrich is one of the last international fashion brands without a fur-free policy even though most of its competitors – including Canada Goose, The North Face, Parajumpers, Patagonia, Fjällräven, MAMMUT, Jack Wolfskin and Napapijri – are already or have gone fur-free. Fur production is cruel to animals, bad for the environment, a risk to public health and completely unnecessary since quality alternatives are available.
Together with the international Fur Free Alliance, FOUR PAWS used the latest international fashion week season in September and October to convince the brand of a fur-free future. Campaigners took to the streets with colourful demonstrations outside stores in many cities across Europe, including Amsterdam, Bologna, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Milan and Munich. Supporters around the world sent more than 200.000 emails, calls flooded into the company, and countless messages were posted on social media, demanding the brand choose compassion over profits by adopting a fur-free policy.
Fur production is cruel to animals, bad for the environment, a risk to public health and completely unnecessary since quality alternatives are available. Unfortunately, despite knowing about the cruelty associated with the fur trade, Woolrich has so far refused to discuss the issue and continues to sell fur on its website and in-store. But following the #FurFreeWoolrich campaign, it does appear that Woolrich has begun removing fur items from its US e-shops — perhaps a first step in the right direction? We continue to urge Woolrich to take an official and public stance against fur.
After mobilising hundreds of thousands of citizens and customers around the world, our campaign will now continue through other means to finally convince Woolrich to take the long-overdue step towards a fur-free policy. We continue to reach out to the company, and we’ll update you as soon as there’s progress.
Thank you so much for taking action and contacting Woolrich about its use of cruel fur.
