FOUR PAWS UK reacts to the King's Speech
A disappointing announcement from the Government
Arthur Thomas, FOUR PAWS UK Public Affairs Advisor says:
“It is disappointing to see that, yet again, the King’s Speech featured no animal welfare legislation. We welcomed the Government’s ambitious Animal Welfare Strategy in December and have been pleased to see progress on key issues including trail hunting and the caged keeping of laying hens. However, today’s announcement setting out the legislative agenda for the coming Parliamentary session failed to mention any animal welfare issues. Manifesto commitments like the ban on the import of hunting trophies remain neglected, despite the legislation having already been written and garnering the support of the majority of MPs. We urge the Government to make good on these commitments as soon as possible. While we wait, animals continue to suffer cruelty and exploitation.”
