When it comes to animals, it’s time for some Bluesky thinking
Get involved in the conversation on our new social media account
As you may already know, we’re all about using social media for good.
In a world filled with recurring bad news cycles, we try to use our social media accounts to empower animal champions (just like you!) to stand up for the voiceless.
If you’ve ever shared one of our rescue stories on Instagram, signed a petition we shared on Facebook, or posted your support for one of our campaigns calling for stronger protection for animals on X, you already know the power that social media can have in fueling the animal welfare movement. It gives us the power to speak up for animals. We can be their voice no matter where we are or how big our platform might be.
That’s why we think it’s important to be able to share our thoughts and ideas with you. To speak with likeminded animal campaigners in real time.
…Enter Bluesky!
Step 1: Download the app or go to the website
Head to bsky.app on your desktop or download the Bluesky app on your phone (iOS and Android). Don’t worry, it’s free to sign up!
Step 2: Create your account
Click ‘Sign Up’ and enter your email, a secure password, and your birthday (just to make sure you’re old enough to use the platform!). You’ll get a confirmation email, so keep an eye on your inbox.
Step 3: Choose your handle
This will be your username. It could be your name, your group’s name (if you’re representing a group), or something animal welfare-related! Keep it simple and memorable.
Step 4: Add a profile photo and bio
First impressions matter. Choose a photo of you that isn’t blurry (with an animal would be even better!). In your bio, let people know who you are and what you stand for. For example, “Animal advocate, fighting for a fur-free future”.
Step 5: Follow like-minded people and organisations
Search for animal welfare organisations you know and trust. A tip for broadening your follow list is to have a look and see who animal welfare organisations are following – you might just find some animal champions just like you.
Step 6: Make your first post
Introduce yourself – let your followers know how you plan to use Bluesky. For example, “Excited to join and build a community of animal champions!”
Step 7: Amplify!
Like, repost and comment on content that you enjoy or that moves you, start conversations or join in on existing conversations that you find interesting. Your voice is vital in amplifying the animal welfare movement.
