Bunny rabbits want love not cages this Valentine’s Day
London – a herd of bunnies have gathered together at the Eros statue (statue of love), in Central London today, in a call to ban cages for farmed rabbits in the UK.
The rabbits have their own Valentine's message to government: 'Love me don't cage me', which highlights the hidden reality of a battery farmed rabbit. FOUR PAWS members will be raising eyebrows and turning heads while handing out leaflets exposing the shame of Britain’s rabbit farming industry.
FOUR PAWS' Angelique Davies, Head of Programmes, said: “Valentine’s day is a time for people to show how much they love and care for someone special. Please join us to help protect rabbits in the UK who can legally be kept in tiny barren cages, severely restricting their movement and natural behaviour. Rabbits spend their entire lives in barren and cramped conditions until they are slaughtered for meat, to be used in pet food or served up in restaurants."
The reality is that farmed rabbit meat is from animals in cages.
Top celebrities backing Four Paws’ campaign include Morrisey, Danielle Lineker, Andrew Sachs, Emma Milne, Dr Scot Miller and many more.
Farmed rabbits are often housed in poor welfare systems with completely inadequate living conditions.
Angelique continued: "FOUR PAWS has exposed the industry across Europe and time after time we find the same conditions. Legal protection for farmed rabbits is woefully inadequate and the UK welfare code, which provides guidance on how they should be looked after to avoid suffering, has not been updated for over 20 years. Our understanding of animals’ welfare needs has come a long way since then but conditions for farmed rabbits are still in the dark ages. We call on the British government to ban the battery cage for farmed rabbits in the UK."
Let’s show just how much we care about British farmed rabbits. Please join FOUR PAWS' campaign and sign our petition.
