Ask Your MP to Sign Early Day Motion for Racehorses

MP for Portsmouth South, Mike Hancock, has tabled an important Early Day Motion (EDM) calling on the government to conduct a complete audit on the racehorse industry and make its findings public.
Every year, thousands of race horses are shot dead in the head on racecourses or during training due to injury, many others who lack the ability to race can often meet the same fate in the slaughterhouse.
• Horses are raced when they are still juveniles, because they are so young their skeletal structure hasn’t yet developed, causing lameness and strain through racing • Because of excessive training - race horses can often bleed from the lungs and windpipe • Horses are subject to whipping, yelling and screaming • During jumps, horses will often fall and break their legs or nexks • Injured horses are usually too costly to give proper veterinary treatment and most are shot on the spot (although hidden from the crowds). • Numerous course racehorses die on the course
Please write to your MP and urge them to support this vital EDM 177: RACEHORSE FATALITIES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM: http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetails.aspx?EDMID=41100&SESSION=905
