Stop illegal puppy farming
The puppy farming business is booming: countless dogs are being shipped over from Ireland. Often these puppies are transported in filthy and inadequate conditions by these ruthless traders. Puppy farms are most common in Wales and Ireland, the puppies they produce are then sold to some pet shops across the UK or can be advertised through the internet or newspaper adverts. Many advertisements claim the puppies are reared "with love" or "in a family environment".
The truth couldn’t be more different. Across Europe, farmed puppies are often torn from their mothers far too early and are seriously ill. The puppies are sometimes transported across Europe with fake paperwork - the open borders within the EU make it easy for the puppy traders.
Dog lovers frequently buy the puppies out of sympathy, without realising that they are supporting the ruthless business of animal suffering. Many of the puppies die after a few days, as they are not vaccinated or de-wormed. If they do survive, they can suffer all their lives. They are psychologically damaged and prone to illness. FOUR PAWS has launched an international campaign against puppy smuggling. We demand a Europe-wide mandatory registration of dogs and better border controls.
