In many European countries, horses are still used in agriculture and for the transportation of goods. Many of them are used in both urban and rural areas; often by Roma communities.
Unfortunately the animals are not always treated properly and often have to work under gruelling conditions, whilst being beaten by their owners. The animals receive no medical attention whatsoever, and are often worked to death. The main goal of Competence Centre Horses is to save suffering horses, treat them, feed them, and eventually find a new, loving owner for them.
Furthermore, wild horses are found in one of the last natural reserves within Eastern Europe; the Danube Delta in Romania. Before they are killed due to overpopulation, a sustainable solution for these horses has been found and will be implemented in 2012.
