Call on the UK Government to finally implement a ban on wild animals in the circus!
Defra Minister George Eusice MP has repeated the Government’s intentions to introduce a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses. His response came following a Parliamentary question put forward by the Green Party MP Caroline Lucas.
Mr Eustice confirmed that the Government intends to introduce a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses “as soon as Parliamentary time allows”.
Although it is good that the ban is still on the Government’s agenda, and we applaud Caroline Lucas for raising the question again, it is now over two years since the original Bill was drafted and there has been very little movement. The Bill itself has never been pushed through and a backbench Bill written by Jim Fitzpatrick has been repeatedly blocked by a small handful of MPs.
It is time that the Government made a solid commitment to bringing in this legislation, so that scenes like the one above can be consigned to history in the UK.
If you agree, why not email George Eustice MP and urge Defra to take action to get the ban introduced as quickly as possible.
